Mountains & West Coast: The proposed walking itinerary is aimed at walkers who fancy the challenge of getting a feel for high places and deciding whether mountain tops are for you. Included in the programme is an ascent of Puig Galatzo (two options) one of Mallorca’s highest peaks at 1026 metres! Walkers should be experienced and fit and accustomed to stony terrain underfoot. Some of the walks require taxi transport to start of walk and return to Hotel (included in price).

Itinerary

Day 1 (Wednesday)
Arrive at Hotel L’Escaleta, S´Arraco
Dinner: 20.00 at the Hotel

Day 2 (Thursday)
Walk: S´Arraco - Sa Trappa - St. Elm - S´Arraco
10.30am: Set off from the Hotel on foot for a classic Mallorquin circuit walk across the majestic Tramuntana foothills, combining woodland, limestone wilderness and panoramic coastal views. After a picnic lunch stop at abandoned mountain dwellings we walk on towards the ruins of the Trappist monastery overlooking the sleeping Dragonera island.
Enjoy a rewarding afternoon drink in St Elm and optional swim in the sea, before walking back to S´Arraco.

Day 3 (Friday)
Walk: Puig Galatzo - climb a Mountain!
10.00am: A 30 minute taxi ride from Hotel to the village of Puigpunyent for start of walk.
The group can decide on two options to reach the summit, depending on preferred length of walk. A rewarding mountain adventure, climbing to the summit of one of Mallorca´s most distinctive mountains (1026 metres sea level). Its height and characteristic shape have generated the creation of legends. This walk is an ideal way of getting a feel for high places and deciding whether mountain tops are for you! A route through woodland and stony tracks and paths with rigorous stretches climbing across rough terrain in places. The reward is a spectacular panorama down over the western coastline to Palma, the mountain range of the Sierra de Tramutana to the northeast and the fertile plain to the south. Picnic lunch on the summit!

For longer option: Puigpunyent La Reserva - Puig Galatzo - Estellencs (linear route)

Overall walking time: Approx 3hr 30 mins
Lunch: Picnic on top of Puig Galatzo (self carry)


Option 2
If tackling mountain summits is not preferred by the group or weather inclement for a summit ascent, there is an alternative walk in the Puigpunyent area:
Puigpunyent - Son Fortesa - Puigpunyent (circular route)
10.00am: A 30 minute taxi ride from Hotel to Puigpunyent for start of walk. The ultimate
get away from it all walk where peace is absolute! Starting from the beautiful manor house
estate of Son Fortesa, we climb steadily along charcoal burners´ tracks and trails before
reaching terraces of gnarled olive trees, a spring, wild goats and an abandoned farmhouse.
The walk then takes us into dense oak forest of dappled light passing a lime kiln before
rejoining a cobbled trail descending across terraces with far reaching mountain views
and manor houses. A 2km walk along a back road into Puigpunyent for drinks.

Day 4 (Saturday)
Esporles to Banyalbufar via Port de Canonge along the Camís des Pescadors & Sa Volta des General.

09.30am: A 40 minute taxi ride from Hotel to village of Esporles for start of walk. Starting in the charming village of Esporles, a linear walk along two of the great pathways of the northwest of the island. A perfect days hiking, including fabulous views, woodland paths, a wild coastline overlooking the deep blue sea, a grand manor house, spectacular cliffs and a welcome lunch stop at Port de Canonge. Finishing in Banyalbufar, a spectacular village set on ancient Moorish citrus terraces above the sea.

Day 5 (Saturday)
Free morning for rest & relaxation.
Opportunity to arrange a massage therapy at the Hotel (additional cost)
